CCTV(closed circuit television ) which is also known as video surveillance.It was first developed in the year 1927 by Russian physicist Léon Theremin. It was first used by Defence.

It is a machine which works as a video camera giving signals to a limited set of monitors. It works as a single point to point (p2p) or point to multiple point (p2mp). With the help of the system we can keep watch on any one by sitting anywhere.

Today lots of people and organisations have installed CCTVs. CCTV helps us in various ways. It is basically used for security purposes. It can be installed anywhere in the buildings, houses, streets, temples etc.

With the help of  CCTV a lot of crime scenes are captured and helps police to solve them.

Surveillance in public areas is getting common nowadays. There are  1 billion cameras installed in the world till 2021. 

During the 1990's  multiplexing was introduced through which multiple cameras were installed to record all at once.

Due to Urbanisation, crime is increasing day by day which creates  security threats, terrorism, etc. Now with the help of advanced technology smart CCTVs are created.

  3. Tracking of couriers

  4. Vehicle licence plate recognition

  5. Detection of unattended objects

  1. Traffic monitoring: In monitoring traffic on the roads, streets and checking the violation of traffic rules.

  2. Organisations: In organisations, CCTVs are installed to monitor all the activities.

  3. Schools: To keep an eye on every student and to check that casualties are not happening. Crime related to student’s kidnapping, harassment and bullying.

  4. Shopping malls and retail stores: CCTVs have been installed to keep a  watch on thieves and ensure the  safety of all the people..

  5. Crime prevention: A lot of crime is increasing day by day, CCTVs helped the police to find the culprit.


The government is helping society by installing cameras in public places to minimise the terrorism . As the terrorism is increasing day by day. So to get a picture of day to day activities.

Role played by storage technologies

CCTV records the audio and video and data gets stored in storage devices like hard disks, pen drives, compact disks. Many service providers provide default  space to store the data. It is also important to check that privacy does not get invaded.


Summary

In the fast growing world, we need to keep an eye on each and everything. CCTV can be called magic for handling different situations by giving a clue related to certain activities.

Through the statistics we can see CCTVs have helped us in various fields. On the road,  CCTV watches  the movement of vehicles which results in a 40%  decrease in crime. In future more advanced CCTV will be installed.
